The book is a literary classic that recently celebrated its 420th anniversary since its publication in 1605. The story revolves around a wealthy old man who becomes obsessed with reading books about knights and romance. Inspired by these tales, he sets off on an adventure as a "knight," accompanied by his loyal "squire," while gradually losing his sanity.
I was tasked with creating a book cover to commemorate the anniversary, along with other promotional materials.
For the cover, I depicted Quixote and Sancho trudging uphill during sunset. This imagery was meant to represent Quixote’s slow descent into madness and the conflicts he encountered along the way. It's an uphill journey. The sunset captures the essence of a hero running off into the sunset, while also reflecting that Quixote’s life was coming to an end. A special mention to the variant design of the poster, Quixote facing Sancho, highlighting their contrasting personalities. The rest of the campaign featured variations of this theme and celebrated the anniversary.
